Tavernier is at the southern end of Key Largo and northern part of Plantation Key, it is history dates back to 1733, Planter as it was called. In 1905 during the construction of the Florida East Coast Railway Extension, Tavernier Creek with the Planter community’s Post Office to its north, Tavernier appeared as The Planter post office. Tavernier post office opened on 1911. The community of Tavernier was given its official name. Tavernier his a small historical community, with many older conch homes as well as newer homes.
